Choose Prism for investigation of its stated work-document or operational-data programme when you can describe a relevant contribution. Consider owner-side advisory work when the unresolved decision is how to position the archive, research potential buyer requirements or compare licensing scopes. Avelence provides that advisory service; the choice is about the work and agreement needed, not an unsupported claim that one route pays more.

This article compares Avelence with a provider page, so the Avelence description is self-reported by the service owner and is not an independent endorsement. Prism's categories are its own published description, checked 3 November 2026. Verify current terms directly; this article does not provide program instructions.

Which records fit Prism’s two published paths?

Prism's current public page describes work documents such as coding, scientific, financial, creative and field work, and operational data from systems including Salesforce, Jira, Slack, SAP and CAD. This is a description of categories on the provider's site. It does not prove that every listed source is currently sought, that a company using one of those systems is eligible, or that any dataset will be accepted.

The categories can help an owner ask a more specific question: does the archive contain linked, permission-cleared records of the work, or only documents about it? A product's category list is not a data specification. The owner still needs to establish the source, task context, permissions, coverage and preparation required.

Which decisions does Avelence advisory work support?

Avelence's service model includes commercial research, dataset positioning, licensing strategy and introductions. The company can authorize Avelence in writing to lead specified discussions, work alongside it, or identify opportunities that the company closes. Avelence does not claim to be the direct buyer or a provider partner.

The company chooses whether to disclose its identity, share an example or authorize recipient access. Each step needs its own authority and scope. Advisory research does not itself create a buyer relationship or guarantee multiple proposals.

What work and agreement differ between the two models?

Decision Prism’s stated programme Avelence advisory scope Owner’s next check
What is being offered? Acquisition of work documents or operational data Research, positioning and licensing strategy for the owner Is the unresolved question programme fit or commercial scope?
Which contribution? Published paths include coding work and operational systems Help defining and comparing possible contributions Describe the actual retained records before choosing a path
Who does preparation? Establish the contribution-specific process in the proposal Custody and technical preparation need separate arrangements Name extraction, review and correction responsibilities
What is the initial work product? A programme-specific scoping or licensing response An agreed research, positioning or negotiation deliverable Specify what decision the work will enable
Which authority is needed? Rights and access for the proposed contribution and use Written authority for any specified buyer discussions Keep identity disclosure and underlying-data access separate

Do not use unverified provider statements about payout, urgency, timing, security or demand as comparison facts. Equally, do not claim that advisory across potential buyers will produce more value. The decision depends on the terms and evidence available to the owner.

Questions to ask before sharing anything

What precise records are in scope? Define systems, fields, date range, versions, links, attachments and exclusions. A category such as “operational data” is too broad for a license.

What does the counterparty need to do with them? State purpose, model or research use, recipient entities, sublicensing and retention. If a contract allows broader downstream use, understand that before agreeing.

How will data be prepared and reviewed? Identify who extracts, filters, transforms, checks privacy risk, validates quality and remedies defects. Do not treat a broad promise to “de-identify” as proof that the data are safe or that the owner has permission to share them.

What is the business commitment? Separate fixed payment from contingent amounts. Define triggers, evidence, reporting, timing, acceptance and termination. A public category list says nothing about transaction terms.

What authority is required? Before identifying a company or providing an example, confirm who can approve that disclosure, which recipient receives it and for what purpose. A confidentiality agreement does not automatically grant data rights.

When should an owner investigate each option?

If the owner has a defined source and wants to assess Prism's published categories, it can compare the current proposal and terms directly. If the owner is still determining which materials and uses to position, it may consider advisory research before authorizing a particular discussion. These can be separate activities, subject to confidentiality and existing contracts.

Use the offer comparison resource when actual proposed terms are available. Recording the same records, uses, work and payment conditions exposes which clarification or counterproposal would change the owner’s decision.

Before comparing terms, identify the records and rights the company proposes to offer, the party able to authorize each grant and any limits already accepted. Give each route the same permitted scope, then ask what agreement and preparation work it would require.

Frequently asked questions

Can an owner approach Prism directly and use Avelence for a limited review?

Potentially. A company with a defined contribution can investigate a programme directly and separately request advice on a particular restriction or scope choice. Check confidentiality and existing commitments, then define what information the adviser may receive and what it may do. That arrangement does not imply that Avelence is a Prism partner or can influence acceptance.

What if our archive contains both documents and operational events?

Describe the two components and their relationships rather than selecting a path from a system name alone. A procedure document and a timestamped sequence may support different uses or preparation needs. Ask which component the proposed programme scope needs, and whether the owner can separate it without losing essential context or including restricted material.
